How difficult is the TMB?
The TMB is a difficult hike and one should be reasonably fit. The average daily elevation gain is about 800m with some steep sections.
I am in my sixties - is the TMB realistic for me?
AbsoluteIy, I recently did it with a group of 60 year olds who were all active (mainly golfers) and
had done some training but nothing extreme. They found it tough, but very doable
What is the trail like underfoot?
The trail is very good. It is mainly dirt/gravel and can get steep, but it is well used and very good in comparison to other hikes in the Alps
Is the trail well marked?
It is generally well marked but we strongly recommend you have a GPS map on your phone. There are a few spots where its not that intuitive and the GPS apps really make it idiot proof
When is the best time to hike the TMB?
We recommend mid June to mid September. You can push those dates a bit but you run the risk of snow cold storms, so you should be an experienced hiker with the appropriate gear
Is it difficult to plan and book a TMB hike independently?
No, its surprisingly easy.
For the 8 night TMB Highlights itinerary you need to make 6 hotel bookings, 1 bag transfer booking and 1 taxi transfer
Can MiTreks make the bookings on my behalf?
No. If you want someone to book everything for you then we recommend going through one of the many self guided tour companies
Does MiTreks provide ongoing support?
No, our subscription fee is purely for access to the itinerary packs

- You can’t contact us with questions or seeking advice
- We don’t provide on trail emergency support

Can I customise a MiTreks itinerary?
Absolutely, that is one of the key benefits of MiTreks.
You can upgrade accommodation, add a rest day, extend or reduce the hike. You tailor it to exactly your needs
Can I share the itinerary packs with my hiking group?
Yes, you can share all the information we provide with the rest of the hikers in your group. This include the Alltrail maps which we recommend are on multiple phones, so you have a backup. However, you may not share the information with anyone who is not in your hiking group … we trust you to do the right thing!
Will I be able to produce a document summarising our itinerary?
Yes, the Itinerary template is in Word, you can amend it and update it with actual dates and bookings references and then publish it as a pdf so everyone in your group can view it on the phones
